Once the first minicomputer was constructed in 1963, and then the first commercially successful supercomputer in 1964, the computer revolution had begun. Industry could see the benefits of computing as well as the availability of high-quality machines to perform it. With the developments of fiber-optic cables, semiconductor lasers, and relational databases, the door was thrown open to developers and programmers. It would be less than a dozen years later that the personal computer would find its way into homes.
